Author by: Michael Lienesch Language: en Publisher by: UNC Press Books Format Available: PDF, ePub, Mobi Total Read: 57 Total Download: 242 File Size: 54,5 Mb Description: This balanced and comprehensive study of Christian conservative thinking focuses on the 1980s, when the New Christian Right appeared suddenly as an influential force on the American political scene, only to fade from the spotlight toward the end of the decade.
In Redeeming America, Michael Lienesch identifies a cyclical redemptive pattern in the New Christian Right's approach to politics, and he argues that the movement is certain to emerge again. Lienesch explores in detail the writings of a wide range of Christian conservatives, including Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Phyllis Schlafly, and Tim and Beverly LaHaye, in order to illuminate the beliefs and ideas on which the movement is based. Depicting the thinking of these writers as a set of concentric circles beginning with the self and moving outward to include the family, the economy, the polity, and the world, Lienesch finds shared themes as well as contradictions and tensions. He also uncovers a complex but persistent pattern of thought that inspires periodic attempts to redeem America, alternating with more inward-looking intervals of personal piety. Author by: Alice P. Our culture's version of marriage is not as God designed it to be.
With a lot more emphasis on individualism and consumerism, today's married couples tend to lose sight of God's original purpose for marriage-a call for his people to take Jesus' message to the heart of everyday life. Marriage Made in Eden provides a radical alternative to today's view of marriage, giving a glimpse into the historical and cultural aspects that have shaped marriage in America. With this insightful analysis you'll learn how marriage has come to be in the state we now find it and about God's model and purpose for a sacred Christian union. Author by: Sally K. Gallagher Language: en Publisher by: Rutgers University Press Format Available: PDF, ePub, Mobi Total Read: 37 Total Download: 748 File Size: 55,6 Mb Description: Evangelical Identity and Gendered Family Life provides a sociological and historical analysis of gender, family, and work among evangelical Protestants.
In this innovative study, Sally Gallagher traces two lines of gender ideals - one of husbands' authority and leadership, the other of mutuality and partnership in marriage - from the Puritans to the Promise Keepers into the lives of ordinary evangelicals today. Rather than simply reacting against or accommodating themselves to secular society, Gallagher argues that both traditional and egalitarian evangelicals draw on longstanding beliefs about gender, human nature, and the person of God. The author bases her arguments on an analysis of evangelical family advice literature, data from a large national survey and personal interviews with over three hundred evangelicals nationwide. No other work in this area draws on such a range of data and methodological resources.
Evangelical Identity and Gendered Family Life establishes a standard for future research by locating the sources, strategies, and meaning of gender within evangelical Protestantism. Williams Language: en Publisher by: Lexington Books Format Available: PDF, ePub, Mobi Total Read: 54 Total Download: 415 File Size: 53,7 Mb Description: This collection of essays explores the varied, sometimes contradictory, and often misapprehended nature of the Promise Keepers. The various media portrayals of this group do not adequately address important questions about their significance for American religious, social, and cultural life.
Is this movement anti-feminist, or are the men involved using their faith to become more responsible husbands and fathers? Is this a political movement, or just another example of an American religious revival? Using interviews, surveys, and on-site participations, the scholars writing here find little truth in the popular depictions of Promise Keepers.
In fact, they demonstrate how this group represents a variety of templates that contemporary American culture brings to religion as a general social phenomenon. The volume examines the ways religion affects social movements, and also puts the current interest in men and masculinity in a larger historical context of changing gender roles. As a phenomenon that strikes right at the intersection of religion, gender, racial relations, public life, and national identity, Promise Keepers will be provocative reading for students, scholars, and educated readers alike. Highly recommended.'
-CHOICE 'An excellent index, well-chosen photographs and illustrations, and an extensive bibliography add further value. American Masculinities is well worth what would otherise be too hefty a price for many libraries because no other encyclopedia comes close to covering this growing field so well.' -American Reference Books Annual American Masculinities: A Historical Encyclopedia is a first-of-its-kind reference, detailing developments in the growing field of men's studies. This up-to-date analytical review serves as a marker of how the field has evolved over the last decade, especially since the 1993 publication of Anthony Rotundo's American Manhood. This seminal book opened new vistas for exploration and research into American History, society, and culture.
Weaving the fabric of American history, American Masculinities illustrates how American political leaders have often used the rhetoric of manliness to underscore the presumed moral righteousness and ostensibly protective purposes of their policies. History in terms of gender archetypes, readers will gain a richer and deeper understanding of America's democratic political system, domestic and foreign policies, and capitalist economic system, as well as the 'private' sphere of the home and domestic life. The contributors to American Masculinities share the assumption that men's lives have been grounded fundamentally in gender, that is, in their awareness of themselves as males. Their approach goes beyond scholarship which traditionally looks at men (and women) in terms of what they do and how they have influenced a given field or era. Rather, this important work delves into the psychological core of manhood which is shaped not only by biology, but also by history, society, and culture. Encapsulating the current state of scholarly interpretation within the field of Men's Studies, American Masculinities: A Historical Encyclopedia is designed to help students and scholars advance their studies, develop new questions for research, and stimulate new ways of exploring the history of American life. Edwin Louis Cole, known as 'the father of the Christian men's movement,' was called by God to speak with a prophetic voice to the men of this generation.
To that end, he founded the Christian Men's Network, a ministry that continues to strengthen men by reaching thousands each month with the reality that manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous. As a pastor, evangelist, missionary, business executive, and denominational leader, Dr. Cole, together with his late wife, Nancy, served the Lord in ministry for more than fifty years until his death in 2002. Over four million copies of his books are in circulation today in more than forty languages, and his work and vision are still carried on by his 'sons' in the faith-godly men who were touched by Dr. Cole's ministry.
Hi everyone, Please find attached (bellow) our next book COMMUNICATION, SEX AND MONEY by Edwin Louis Cole. We concluded GOD IS A MATCHMAKER by Derek Prince last Saturday and this is what we learn t.
From beginning of human history God established a principle: 'Its not good for man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him.' (Genesis 2:24) God Himself established marriage using the principles below: 1.Marriage originated entirely with God. Adam had no part in it.
It was God who decided Adam needed a wife not Adam. It was God who formed Eve for Adam. He alone knew the kind of mate Adam needed. It was God who presented Eve to Adam. Adam did not have to go in search of her. It was God who determined the way in which Adam and Eve were to relate with each other.
Edwin Louis Cole Written Works
The end purpose was perfect unity. (Genesis 2:24) God still uses this pattern today. We should not enter into marriage because it is our decision but because it is God's. God has good plans for us and those plans include our marriage as-well. It is God who created us, He knew us even before we were formed in our mother's womb. He alone knows who is best suited for us - the perfect match.
In 2Corinthians 6:14-15 Paul warns us that it is wrong for Christians to marry nu-believers. From the book we discovered that the gateway to marriage is found in Romans 12:1-2 (please read it and meditate on it) It is God who brings two people together, it is God who makes them fall in love and it is God who joins them together in marriage for His purpose. Janome digitizer mbx cracked. In God there is no 'purposeless relationship' there is always a reason, a purpose why God joins two people together in marriage (like the personal testimony of Derek Prince in the book). We came to the conclusion that searching, scheming, playing hard to get etc is not biblical, it is not of God but its worldly character.
We should love God, offer our self to Him as a living sacrifice and get involved in ministry. When we do this then along the way the Lord Himself will bring our spouse to us 100% stress free. Here is our next book and like the name suggests it gives biblical solutions to the three major challenges in all relationships - communication, sex and money.
